Course Description

CalArts recognizes the significance of Indigenous knowledge in the creative arts. If you have completed a program of study in an Indigenous art practice, you may apply for Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) for those skills to be considered as one qualifying course towards any Certificate from CalArts Extended Studies. You will need to provide evidence that you have received at least 18 hours of training from an Indigenous cultural institution, Indigenous mentoring artist, knowledge keeper, or a community Elder.

To obtain this Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition, you are required to submit a brief description of the training, including instructor(s), location, duration, and dates, as well as documentation of the work completed during or after the training.

This application is for any of the Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition courses that we offer. All required documents are to be uploaded via the attached questionnaire. A special request fee of $50 is required at the time of the application.
